HEALTH AND FITNESS: My friend and I have trained together for a few years and made good progress. But since we stopped training for a few months now, I have noticed that my muscles have shrunk a lot, while my friend’s haven’t.
What could be the reason? I am very disappointed watching my hard earned gains disappear into thin air.

Hi Sagar,
Comparisons will only leave you dissatisfied. Instead I highly recommend you focus on self-improvement. Make steady progress your center of focus. Strive to better yourself in every way, use others success and progress as an inspiration to realise your personal goals.
The possible reasons why you have lost muscle could be;
1. Genetics:
We are all individuals, genetically gifted and limited in many ways.
It is probable that your friends have genetic propensity to hold on to muscle much more easily than you can.
Whether you choose to accept it or not, genetics do play a big role in every given sport. It couldn’t be more true for bodybuilding. When all things are equal, genetics always has the final word.
2. Nutrition:
In order to hold on to muscle, you have to train and feed it. If it’s not used and stressed consistently, our body considers it dead weight, and over time begins to shed it. This process can be slowed down by feeding your muscles well, even when on a break from training.
But by not training and eating whatever you can lay your hands on, you create a perfect ambiance for muscle and strength loss.
Tip of the week The good in exercise is only fully realised, when you incorporate it into your life style |
3. It’s life:
Like all things in life, if you wish to keep it, you need to work and nurture it consistently.
Nothing is permanent.
